Right to Learn Christian School 2024-2025.

Right to Learn Christian School opened its doors on November 18th, 2024.  Eighteen three-year-olds and 20 four- and five-year-olds assembled every morning at 8:00am to sing the Dominican National Anthem and pray in the courtyard and then enter the building to eat a hearty breakfast prepared by our full-time cook. With their hunger satisfied, they then started their school day being taught by two certified Dominican teachers, each with a teacher assistant, and a teacher hired specifically to teach English and bible.  At 11:30 they were picked up by parents and another group of 38 students arrived for a large home cooked lunch before starting their school day which ended at 4:00pm.

During the school day, even though most of these kids entered speaking only creole, they learned numbers, colors, letters, how to write their names, among other things in both Spanish and English. They learned about healthy eating habits, their bodies, the environment, the Dominican flag, and the bible all through the creative methods of their very dedicated teachers. Play was an essential learning tool. The students enjoyed playing with toys donated by generous donors. Some of their favorites were the pretend kitchen, dolls, cars, trucks, blocks, coloring, painting and puzzles. If you walked through their classrooms, you could often hear them singing and dancing joyfully as they learned.

The teachers and assistants taught under the very experienced guidance of our director who made a huge impact on our school and in getting us certified through the Ministry of Education of the Dominican Republic. Our secretary not only kept the office organized, but also was very interactive with the students. We also had a doorman who ensured the safety of those coming and going and kept the school building secure and in good shape.

Volunteers from the community, and abroad, visited our school to give lessons, do fun activities, or just read to the students. Volunteers also donated supplies not only for the students, but their families as well.

We ended the school year with a big celebration which included dancing, food, balloons, and swimming in the donated pool which was welcomed on a hot summer day. The students, volunteers, teachers and staff are very grateful to all the people who cared enough to make this school year a success and are looking forward to an even better 2025-2026 school year.

A Message from Our Leadership

From the Board of Directors

Our leadership team is passionate about transforming lives through education. We are grateful for the support of our community and partners who share our vision for a brighter future.

Together, we can create a future where every child has the right to learn.

Since our inception in 2017, Right to Learn has served nearly 2,000 children through education, mentorship, and essential resources. Our annual toy distributions and back-to-school drives have brought joy and necessary supplies to children in need.

In 2024, we established Right to Learn Christian School in Las Terrenas, Dominican Republic, starting with 76 students, ages 3-5. Our goal is to expand grade levels each year, eventually serving students from pre-K through high school.

We believe education is the most powerful tool for breaking the cycle of poverty, and we are committed to ensuring the children in our community have access to quality instruction, a supportive learning environment, as well as the community to thrive. Thank you for being part of our journey. Together, we can create a future where every child has the right to learn.
